“The suspense is terrible. I hope it lasts.”

In case you forgot, the election is approaching rapidly (2.5 weeks away from when you read this). I currently live in a swing district inside of a swing state – the amount of campaign mail I get has made me promise myself that I’ll invest in local printing companies by the time 2028 rolls around.

As of this writing the polls have it as basically a 50/50 jump ball – Harris is up slightly nationally, Trump is up slightly in the swing states, but pretty much all of them are inside of error.

While voters may have a strong preference for one or the other, at the moment the market seems to not care very much. You can currently buy a S&P 500 call option that expires on November 8 (ie, after results are known) for essentially current market price-  which means the big investors with money on the line aren’t predicting any type of spike or collapse regardless of who wins.  We’ll see if that changes as we get closer, but for now it could be a case of the results already being baked in.
